Amplifying climate justice through spoken word

Disruptive Verse brought together local writers, poets and spoken word artists for a series of powerful evenings centred around environmentalism, the climate crisis and social justice.

The performances demonstrated the ways in which the written word can help us make sense of the climate crisis, as well as offering an emotional outlet and response to the threats it poses.

My photographic approach centered on honouring the emotional weight and energy of each performance, translating the spirit of collective resistance and care into visual form.

The Stop Rosebank movement

Originally called Prosebank, the event was set up by Stop Rosebank movement to bring together artists and climate activists. Rosebank is the UK’s biggest undeveloped oil and gas field. Its climate pollution would be greater than the combined annual CO2 emissions of all 28 low-income countries in the world - a devastating project that would push us closer to parts of our world becoming uninhabitable.

The Stop Rosebank campaign demands an end to new oil and gas, with a just transition to clean energy that prioritises community and justice.

These images have since been used to amplify the Bristol Stop Rosebank movement on digital channels, helping reinforce the emotional stakes of climate and social justice.
